Ivelet Bridge is a narrow, single span, single carriageway stone bridge spanning the River Swale just south of the hamlet of Ivelet. Ivelet is no more than a small cluster of houses that front the Shore Gill, 200 yards from the north bank of the Swale. Ivelet is midway between Gunnerside and Muker. The bridge is dated to the 16th century and has a Grade II listing.
A path from the north side of Ivelet provides access to a mining road that sweeps along the edge of Black Hill, incorporating Ivelet Side, Arn Gill Scar and Swinner Gill.
Ivelet Bridge
The River Swale glides unobtrusively beneath the span of Ivelet Bridge. Hardly a ripple is apparent and no stones break the surface. The result is an unbroken reflection of this inviting pack horse bridge. The Coast to Coast path follows the River Swale to Ivelet Bridge, requiring its ramblers to leave the path momentarily and to cross back to it on the other side.
Ivelet Bridge Oxnop Beck
Ivelet Bridge spans the River Swale within yards of Oxnop Beck's convergence with the Swale, visible through the arch of the bridge when viewed from the north riverbank. Oxnop Beck has made its way from the top of Satron Moor.

Ivelet Bridge Coffin Stone
Ivelet Bridge is a Grade II Listed 16th century packhorse bridge. It was used anciently (prior to 1580 when Muker Church was built) by pall bearers conveying corpses in a wicker basket along the Corpse Way from Upper Swaledale to St Andrew's Church in Grinton. A coffin stone was positioned close to the bridge on the north riverbank, to allow the pall bearers to rest. It is seen as the large single stone set into the verge at the side of the bridge.

The 1989 James Heriott t.v. series of "All Creatures Great and Small", season 6, epsiode 3, contained a scene at Ivelet Bridge where Callum saved the life of a mother and baby otter.
Hamlet of Ivelet
The hamlet of Ivelet is only a few minutes walk from Ivelet Bridge, although up a very steep road. Shore Gill flows through Ivelet, which converges with the River Swale a short distance to the east of the hamlet.
