Ennerdale Valley - Canvas Print
Ennerdale Valley from Green Gable - Coast to Coast
From the summit of Green Gable, the full length of Ennerdale Valley unfolds westward, its long, wooded floor tracing the early stages of the Coast to Coast route as it leaves the Irish Sea behind. The valley lies in quiet contrast to the high fells, enclosed by the dark slopes of Pillar and the western ridges, while the distant line of the coast fades into the horizon beyond.
The path itself can be followed along the valley floor, passing beneath the crags before turning toward the rising ground at Seavy Knott, where the route begins its gradual climb out of Ennerdale. From this vantage, the alternative high-level route is also revealed — the sweeping ridge of Red Pike, High Stile and High Crag, offering a more demanding but spectacular passage above the valley.
It is a view that captures both the scale and structure of the western Lake District, where valley, ridge and route come together in a landscape shaped by time, weather and the passage of walkers.
