Dowbrow Slack, Robin Hood's Bay, Coast to Coast
Bay Ness is an old farm and campsite owned by the National Trust. Within the Farm is Dowbrow Well and from the well to the Coastal cliffs, following the Farm's south east boundary wall is Dowbrow Slack, a stream of shallow water (except during heavy rain), which follows the boundary wall to and below the Cinder Track and across Rocket Post Field to the cliff edge midway between Dungeon Hole and Ness Ruck. As the water runs over the cliff there is a medium sized waterfall, which plunges 30 foot to the rocks below.
Bay Ness is a mile north of Robin Hood's Bay and 3 miles north east of Sneaton Low Moor. The Cinder Track parallel's the Coast to Coast path to the east of Bay Ness.
Bay Ness Robin Hood's Bay
Bay Ness is a farm and camping centre managed by the National Trust. Walking east from the Bay Ness complex you would cross over the Cinder Track and then pass the outbuilding seen in the image and the white look out tower before arriving at the rocks of Bulmer Steel Hole on the Coast. Following the coastal path a quarter mile further south would bring you to Dowbrow Slack, where it tumbles over the cliff face midway between Ness Ruck and Dungeon Hole. The dip in the field in the mid-ground, east of the barn, is where issues originate, which form the Bay Ness Slack .
Dowbrow Slack Coast to Coast
As the Coast to Coast path approaches a small, stepped dip on the edge of the cliffs, water coming from Dowbrow Slack submerges the path in its haste to spurt over the cliff edge.
Upstream to Bay Ness
The Slack is on the far side of the fence bordered by the hedge. It is customarily no more than rain water run off, transformng to a more rugged watercourse during inclement weather. More interesting is its downward plunge over the cliffs, as seen from Dungeon Hole. The tunnel is the underpass for the Cinder Track.
