Crosby Garrett Fell

Where the limestone scars of Great Asby and Little Asby end the area of moorland to their east is Crosby Garrett Fell. The Fell has a number of large hills, the highest being Nettle Hill at 382m. Great Ewe Fell peaks at 365m, Little Ewe Fell at 353m, and Begin Hill at 310m. Great Ewe Fell and Begin Hill are visited by Coast to Coast walkers, between Sunbiggin Tarn and Smardale. The Fell's southerly domain is bordered by Ravenstonedale Moor and Newbriggin-on-Lune.

The outskirts of Crosby Garrett village begin where the moorland terminates at its north east corner. This is also where the Crosby Garrett Gill is born, that eventually finds its way to the River Eden.

Nettle Hill

From the Severalls settlement the northern skyline is occupied by Nettle Hill. Nettle Hill has twin summits at 382m, the northmost having a trig cairn encircled within a partly dematerialized cairn.

Greystones

Greystones is an area of limestone outcroppings on the north east flank of Nettle Hill, between the 320m - 360m contours as the hill declines to Crosby Garrett. From Intake, Greystones merges in silhouette, with Beacon Hill, as the fell is observed in the distance dipping below the obtruding fields of Bull Flat.

Great Ewe Fell

Looking up to the summit of Great Ewe Fell from the Coast to Coast path near Ewefell Mire, the sudden acclivitous rise of the hill summit is striking. Great Ewe Fell rises to 365m

Crosby Garrett Beck

Crosby Garrett Beck issues from two springs in close proximity to each other at the very south eastern extremity of the Crosby Garrett Fell. The Beck subsumes two gills during its short journey into the village of Crosby Garrett.

Crosby Garrett

Crosby Garrett village is separated from the Fell only by a viaduct carrying the railway between Settle and Carlisle. The village is small but attractive with a population of 195 (census 2011). Crosby Garrett Beck flows through the village centre and has a number of small bridgelets.

Steam Train

The viaduct at Crosby Garrett is a well-noted landmark, used as a backdrop for photographers from far and wide. There is a regular steam train service and photographers can be seen dotting the rising path on Crosby Garrett Fell while patiently awaiting the train.
